Stephen Root told the Associated Press at the BAFTA TV Tea Party on 14 September 2026 that he appears in Grand Theft Auto VI — on-record: “You’re gonna see me in there.” Press (Polygon, Metro, IGN Daily Fix 15 Sep) identifies that role as Brian Heder, the Keys smuggler already named on Rockstar’s official GTA VI site. This hub separates Actor Confirmed / Press from Character Official. It is not a Rockstar PR casting announcement. We do not invent further cast confirms.
Launch remains 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Status labels: Actor Confirmed (Root on record to AP) · Press (named outlets ID = Brian Heder) · Character Official (Rockstar VI character copy / stills) · Unconfirmed.

| Stephen Root appears / voices a character in GTA VI | Actor Confirmed | Root to AP, BAFTA TV Tea Party, 14 Sep 2026 (“You’re gonna see me in there”; character was in early marketing; voice recognised from King of the Hill) |
| That role = Brian Heder | Press | Polygon (14 Sep); Metro; IGN Daily Fix (15 Sep). Press maps Root’s confirmation + voice match to Rockstar’s named Brian — Root’s published AP quotes do not spell the character name |

Actor Confirmed — Root to AP (14 Sep 2026)
Root confirmed presence in GTA VI on the BAFTA TV Tea Party red carpet to AP. Core points from the on-record interview (as carried by press):
- He will be seen in the game.
- He cites early GTA VI marketing that already featured his character.
- He attributes early recognition to his King of the Hill voice work.
- He reiterated the 19 November launch window as the latest he knew.
Label: Actor Confirmed for Root is in GTA VI. That is the hard fact.
Press — role identified as Brian Heder
Polygon, Metro, and IGN Daily Fix (15 Sep) frame Root’s character as Brian Heder, matching Rockstar’s official supporting cast page and trailer / Extended Look voice recognition chatter.
Label: Press for Root = Brian. Vice Meta does not upgrade that to a Rockstar casting newswire. If Rockstar later posts a named casting note, this table updates in place.
Character Official — what Rockstar already published
Independent of the actor news, Rockstar’s VI site already lists Brian Heder:
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| Keys / Leonida Keys smuggler; classic drug runner | Character Official |
| Boat yard; partner Lori | Character Official |
| Jason lives rent-free on Brian’s property | Character Official |
| Strings: help with local shakedowns | Character Official |
| Ties into Jason’s Army → Keys drug-running arc | Character Official (see also Leonida map) |
Official stills only — no leaks, no TGG frames.
What this is not
- Not a Rockstar PR casting announcement.
- Not permission to invent Lucia / Jason / supporting-cast actor names.
- Not a money or mission payout sheet.
- Not Extended Look rehost material.
